Injury Prevention Council

In combination with our in-house expertise and customer feedback, we created a third pillar of knowledge - Remedy Interactive's Injury Prevention Council - to co-develop our injury prevention strategy and to ensure we create the highest value for our customers. The Council is comprised of health practitioners, business leaders and injury prevention scientists who represent disciplines ranging from ergonomics to risk management to employee health and safety management. We constantly look for new leaders in injury prevention to add to our circle of expertise. Look for more experts here in the near future.

Ron Goodman
Injury Prevention Science Coordinator
Remedy Interactive, Inc.

Ron Goodman has over 20 years of experience as a science researcher in fields ranging from ergonomics and injury prevention to user-centered design to digital audio signal processing to vaccinology. In 1999, he developed RSIGuard based on extensive research in ergonomics, psychology, and the field of persuasive technology. Previously Goodman did R&D work central to the development of the first portable high-capacity MP3 players. He has been actively involved in Injury Prevention Science and has begun to contribute to the next planned update to the HFES/ANSI ergonomics standard. Goodman received his BS in Engineering and Applied Science from the California Institute of Technology, and did his Masters work in Computer Science at the University of California, Santa Cruz.

Swati Deshkar, CIE, MSPT
Ergonomic Consultant
VocSolutions Inc.

Swati Deshkar has over 8 years of experience in ergonomics solutions consulting, which includes more than 7,000 ergonomics evaluations with hands-on implementations in manufacturing, office and R&D lab setups. She is proficient in handling workers' compensation cases, Internet/ Remote Software based ergonomics assessments, injury/illness prevention programs, ergonomics program management and training for corporate health and safety initiatives, and custom design projects for R&D and manufacturing. Deshkar has consulted for various North American corporate clients such as Genentech, Agilent Technologies, Abbott Labs, Cisco, Philips Lumileds and Sun Microsystems. She received her Master of Science in Physical Therapy (MSPT) from Bombay University in India. Deshkar is a Certified Industrial Ergonomist (CIE) and a licensed Physical Therapist in California and Illinois.

Dan Shafer, OT, CIE
President
VocSolutions Inc.

Dan Shafer is the President of VocSolutions Inc. where he and his team focus on ergonomic solutions for corporate employees at large clients such as Sun Microsystems, Roche Bioscience, Abbott Vascular, and others, as well as law firms and other workers' compensation clients. His extensive experience in the field of ergonomics and assistive technology includes serving as a founder and manager of the Computer Access Technology Lab for TransAccess Inc. (formerly DPI), where he provided ergonomics and technology solutions for high-tech employees with disabilities throughout the Bay Area. Prior to TransAccess Inc., Shafer served as a Research Health Scientist at the Palo Alto VA Rehabilitation Research & Development Center, where he participated in research studies involving robotics, vocational training methodologies, and video-integrated databases for assessment and training purposes. Shafer has presented at the American Occupational Therapy Association and the Rehabilitation Engineering Society (RESNA) National Conferences, and has authored and co-authored articles in publications such as ADVANCE for Directors in Rehabilitation, ADVANCE for Occupational Therapy Practitioners, and Work: A Journal of Prevention, Assessment, and Rehabilitation. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Occupational Therapy with Certification in Technology Specialization from University of Wisconsin-Madison. Shafer also has received a Certified Industrial Ergonomist Certification through Oxford Research.

Shawnalea Shelly, OTR/L, CEA
Occupational Ergonomics and Injury Prevention Consultant

Shawnalea Shelly currently is a licensed Occupational Therapist in Oregon, Washington, and Arizona. She became interested in Ergonomics and Injury Prevention as a result of working with clients who sustained occupational injuries due to repetitive motion and overexertion on the job. For more than 12 years, Shelly has been assisting companies throughout the Western United States to optimize existing ergonomics and injury prevention programs and to develop and implement successful new programs. She combines expertise and in-depth knowledge of industrial and office ergonomics with a thorough understanding of biomechanics, pathophysiology, and neutral posture. Through systematic analysis of job demands and ergonomic risk factors and a practical approach toward reducing/eliminating risk factors, Shelly provides companies in today's business environment with the tools necessary to reduce injuries and the costs associated with them. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Occupational Therapy from Colorado State University. In 2005, she became credentialed by the Board of Certification in Professional Ergonomics.

Brett Weiss, MPT

As a physical therapist clinician since 1995, Brett Weiss has specialized in treating occupational and orthopedic injuries in both rehabilitation facilities as well as on-site at corporate campuses. During his clinical career, Weiss was the Director of Rehabilitation Services at Sun Microsystems, and the Director of Ergonomic Services for Physiotherapy Associates in San Francisco. Later, he founded Remedy Interactive as a consulting company. Shortly thereafter, Weiss partnered with Joe Perry and evolved the business into the software-for-service business that it is today. During his tenure at Remedy Interactive, he was President of the Board of Directors, VP of Client Strategy and Chief Knowledge Officer. In addition to directing business and management priorities, Weiss was responsible for balancing the strategic needs of Remedy Interactive's Fortune 1000 customers with clinical necessities requisite of the product line. He has been a speaker at each major national industry convention, and has published multiple case studies and essays in several industry periodicals. Weiss also has been interviewed as an industry expert by USA Today, the BBC News, and has appeared on the live TV show, "A Call for Help."

Joe Perry, MPT
Founder
Remedy Interactive, Inc.

Joe Perry has a broad base of experience in the Fortune 500 Risk Management and Environmental Health and Safety markets. Prior to co-founding Remedy Interactive, he specialized in industrial rehabilitation and clinical physical therapy. As an Orthopedic Staff Therapist with Kaiser Hospital in San Francisco, he assumed responsibility for the management and treatment of a large patient population. Later, at Active Care, a multi-million dollar San Francisco based physical therapy clinic, Perry was responsible for implementing a referral-source marketing strategy that grew fee-for-service referrals by 200 percent. He received his Masters in Physical Therapy from the University of California at San Francisco and his undergraduate degree from California State University, Chico.
